10 Things New Parents Shouldn’t Worry About When Booking a Perth Newborn Photo Shoot

One of the most magical parts of my job is spending time with precious newborns and their loving families. This special period is filled with change and transition, and your photography session should be a beautiful moment in these early days. However, there are often myths and misconceptions that can cause concern for expecting and new parents. Let me set the record straight about what it’s truly like when you choose an experienced photographer like myself for your Perth newborn photo shoot…

MYTH #1: THERE’S AN IDEAL TIME for your perth newborn photo shoot

Many Perth newborn photographers will tell you that there’s a strict 14-day window to capture your baby in their most peaceful, squishy state. While the first 14 days are ideal, if you schedule your shoot for the 15th day or even the 21st, your baby will still be absolutely delightful! Life happens—premature births, hospital stays, or even forgetting to book in the excitement of welcoming your newest family member, can shift your timing. A good Perth newborn photographer will ensure you capture beautiful memories no matter when you book. For those who want those curled-up poses, booking early is a great idea, ideally by your second trimester.

MYTH #2: your BABY HAS TO BE ASLEEP

There’s a common misconception that your baby must be asleep for the photos to turn out well. As a dedicated Perth newborn photographer, I can assure you that not every baby is a sleeper, and some of the most stunning shots I’ve taken are of newborns who are wide awake and curious! It’s perfectly normal for your little one to be awake or asleep, and I adapt to whatever your baby needs on the day. With years of experience, I’ve never needed to reschedule for an awake baby—so rest assured, all is well and you’ll love your photos regardless!

MYTH #3: MY BABY HATES BEING NAKED

It’s a common worry that your baby will dislike being photographed without clothes. Considering they spent nine months without clothing, it’s more likely that they might dislike feeling cold. I keep my studio super toasty, making it a comforting space for your baby. Parents are often amazed at how relaxed their little ones are in the warmth of my studio. And yes, I might have a bit of a reputation as a ‘baby whisperer’! Patience is key 😘

MYTH #4: IT’S A DISASTER IF BUB DOESN’T HAVE A NAPPY ON

As an experienced Perth newborn photographer, I’m not fazed by a little mess. Whether your baby decides to ‘go’ on my blankets or even on me, it’s all part of the process. I’ve seen it all, and everything is washable. So, don’t worry about a little mess—it’s completely normal and nothing I can’t handle! They’ll be wearing their nappy most of the time, but a little potential mess to get stunning photos like this one below, is worth it! ⬇️

MYTH #5: TODDLERS ARE NOT WELCOME

Absolutely not! Capturing the magic of your entire family, including toddlers, is a big part of the experience. I’m used to the lively energy that toddlers bring and love seeing them interact with their new sibling. Bring them along and know that their presence is welcomed. To keep them engaged while they’re curious, we’ll take family and sibling photos first. Then they can be a part of any more photos as they feel like it, as the session progresses.

MYTH #6: I won't like any photos of my post-baby body

No matter what, you are beautiful—whether it’s 10 days post-partum or 10 years. The experience of growing and birthing a child is powerful, and it shows. Wear what makes you feel wonderful, and remember, I’ve been photographing new Mums for a looooong time. I know how to pose you to highlight your best features while capturing the beautiful connection with your new baby. If you feel up to it, and think it will improve your confidence, organising professional hair and make up is also a great idea. Just ask me for recommendations

MYTH #7: A perth newborn photo shoot experience is expensive

When it comes to your Perth newborn photo shoot, it’s important to view it as an investment. This isn’t just about spending money on another item that will eventually be replaced, outgrown or even get tired of; it’s about preserving a very fleeting moment in your family’s history. You’ll never regret the photos you DID take. This art captures something incredibly special—how much is that worth to you? Check out some of my starting prices here.

MYTH #8: NEWBORN PHOTOSHOOTS ARE DANGEROUS

Safety is paramount, and as a Perth newborn photographer, I’m committed to it. Risks can arise with inexperienced photographers, which is why it’s crucial to choose someone with a solid safety record. I’ve attended numerous workshops and learned from specialists to ensure the safety of your baby. If you have any concerns, please voice them so we can address them together.

MYTH #9: YOU NEED TO HAVE A CLEAR PLAN FOR YOUR PHOTOS BEFORE YOU BOOK

Feeling pressure to have everything planned out before booking is unnecessary. Part of the experience is consulting about the best products and display options for your home. If you’re unsure where to start, don’t worry. I have state-of-the-art software that shows you exactly what your photos will look like on your walls. My goal is to make the process enjoyable and ensure you love the final results.

MYTH #10: MY BABY NEEDS TO BE CALM AND HAPPY ALL THE TIME

It’s easy to think that for the photos to turn out well, your baby needs to be in a serene mood throughout the session. In truth, babies are unpredictable. Some sessions will include a mix of settling, feeding, awake and sleepy moments. As an experienced Perth newborn photographer, I’m adept at handling all sorts of baby moods to ensure a smooth and enjoyable session.
