MEET THE HASKINS - a perth city family photo shoot

A little story about going the extra mile when choosing outfits and a location for your Perth City family photos

Let me tell you a story about the Haskins family…

I photographed Carmela & Andrew’s wedding in 2019, and I was so excited to hear from them again to capture some family portraits for them, since their family has grown.

When I speak to my clients during the planning stages of their photo shoot, I always ask them about the end result they’re hoping to achieve. It’s important for me to know how they want to display these memories we’re about to create, as their answer actually affects the way I shoot on the day.

In Carmela & Andrew’s case, they already had a beautiful framed wall print from their wedding day, and they wanted to add more photos from this new family shoot to form a collection in their entry hallway.

So… knowing that the new photos we were about to create needed to complement their wedding photo, finding the perfect Perth City family photos location (with similar colours and tones – and being mindful of their outfit choices), became hugely important to have a cohesive collection that would look beautiful together.

I looked back at their wedding photo, and with Andrew’s navy blue suit, and the dark architectural background, a garden or river location was obviously not going to work! I ended up choosing the surrounds of the State Buildings, as this popular wedding location has these gorgeous dark doors and neutral pillars I knew would complement the tones of their wedding location beautifully.

Sticking with a blue colour palette for their outfits would do the trick! I love that they didn’t choose anything matchy-matchy, but instead focussed on complementing each other with navy, tan and lighter blue hues.

The end result turned out incredibly stunning and it looks just like the digital mockup we created, but even better!

Can you believe this photo below is the digital mock up? The software I use during my client’s design consultation appointment is phenomenal at taking all the guess work out of trying to envision your photos in your home. There’s no need to wonder if you’re ordering something that’s too big or too small for the space you plan to display it.

They finally got to fill their entry hallway with photos of their favourite people, and I’m sure you’ll agree it looks fantastic!

Take a look for yourself, and you be the judge…
