A series of photos I almost didn’t take
The sun had set, and we’d accomplished everything we needed from the session, including allllllll the combinations. And of course, we left room for fun!
But then, just as we were about to pack up and head back to the car, I saw Chantelle dipping her toes in the water.
…Next minute… her two younger sisters decided to join in.
It wasn’t posed.
It wasn’t planned.
But it was real.
And when I look at these photos now, they make my heart smile.
The serenity.
The playfulness.
And the in-between-ness of this moment — when one chapter ends and another one begins.
If there’s one thing I know well, it’s this:
The photo that parents keep coming back to, well after the session is over?
It’s that one…
…the one which depicts their personalities to a tee.
…the one they’ll tell their friends about when sharing their experience of having family photos taken.
And it almost didn’t happen.
Sometimes, the magic isn’t in the plan.
It’s in the pause.
The breath.
The in-between moments that catch you off guard in the best way.
